The DVD comes in a regular plastic case, but has a really nice cover to slip over the case. Inside is a booklet that has character relations and bios, an interview with the chief writer Yasuyuki Muto, and a portion of the scripting as he wrote it. The Extras include: Historical notes, which lists many facts about who characters were based on; commentaries with voice actors, translators and the ADR Director; Japanese Promotional Video; Japanese Trailer; Clean Opening; Clean Closing; and ADV Previews.

Le Chevalier D’Eon has a dark setting yet wasn’t hard to see the animation. The backgrounds were quite detailed, from floor patters to accessories and even some of the clothes the characters wore.

Sound: 8

The Japanese soundtrack is, of course, outstanding. For the English track, they matched the voices a bit more for the characters’ age. They also used some accents their characters should have. The background music is that of an orchestra, which helps set the mood for scenes as well as seems appropriate for the era the show is based in.

Subtitles: 8

The subtitles are a medium yellow font, with a thick black border. Reading the subtitles allows you to see how much editing they have done to the script. The edits are for the usual, to match the lips and help it sound a bit more like they would have talked back then.

Overall: 8.4

Le Chevalier D’Eon is an interesting watch, with a twist on history. They mystery of who killed Lia and why, makes you want to find out the truth as well. Le Chevalier D’Eon is a 6 volume series, with the first volume set to release on February 20, 2007.
